Elliptical: our advice

Ellittica: i nostri consigli

Today we're talking about a fitness machine that is not very well-known and often underestimated.

HISTORY

It was first introduced in 1995 as the Elliptical Fitness Crosstrainer. The equipment was designed to allow for a fluid, low-impact, elliptical movement that was very effective from a training perspective. Thus, it allows for effective training, affecting the entire body and without trauma to ligaments or the back.

ADVANTAGES

The elliptical is one of the best pieces of equipment for burning fat and toning the entire body. It is easy to use and requires a good level of concentration to maintain fluid movement and a certain resistance to fatigue. It tones the entire cardiovascular system, leg muscles and glutes, tightens the abs, and also works the upper body (arms and shoulders).
It's the best choice when starting physical activity after a sedentary period.

  • For the same amount of workout time, it burns more calories than a treadmill and stationary bike.
  • It puts less stress on joints and the back.
  • It allows you to instantly monitor all values for heart rate, calories, speed, time, and distance.
  • It allows you to maintain a consistent pace for better aerobic work.

The features to consider when purchasing an elliptical are:

DIMENSIONS: are fundamental for correct activity. The longer the elliptical, the more extended and regular the movement. Equipment under one meter is not recommended because it does not allow for correct movement.

FLYWHEEL: is the metal disc that rotates, driven by the pedals. Its weight varies from 12 kg to 20 kg, and those recommended are over 15 kg. A heavy flywheel allows for smooth and constant machine movement.

RESISTANCE: can be manual (knob) or electronic (directly from the console).

BRAKING: can be magnetic (through the action of two or more felt pads that act directly in contact with the flywheel) or electromagnetic (effort regulation through magnets that, by moving closer or further away from the flywheel, allow regulation. This technology is very precise and suitable for therapeutic use, rehabilitation, or competitive sports)

CATEGORIES

There are different categories of ellipticals:

FRONT-DRIVE ELLIPTICALS: are more comfortable for taller and heavier users and are recommended for very intense workouts. They have the option of incorporating a heavier flywheel. Generally, they require more space but can be folded to limit space when not in use.

REAR-DRIVE ELLIPTICALS: have simpler mechanics with lower costs and smaller footprints.

CONSOLE

Each elliptical has a console that displays time, speed, distance, calories, and heart rate. Professional products (ergometers) allow you to customize programs, manage them, and show effort recovery.

ASSEMBLY AND MAINTENANCE

Assembling an elliptical is not simple. The high number of mechanical components, joints, and bearings requires an expert hand. For this reason, we always offer our customers who purchase in-store to take care of the assembly and deliver a ready-to-use and already calibrated machine.

Maintenance, on the other hand, is very simple; it only requires occasional checking of screw tightness and lubrication of joints subjected to mechanical stress.
