Spinning: cardio workout at home
ADVANTAGES
The Spin Bike is the ideal tool for burning calories; in fact, a 40-minute session can burn between 250 and 800 calories. It mainly strengthens the lower body such as thighs, calves, and glutes, but also arms and abs. Used diligently, significant physical improvements will be noticed, such as less fatigue, a more toned body, less stress, and above all, an improved cardiovascular system.
The differences with exercise bikes are evident. The spin bike has a very resistant structure, a heavy flywheel in the front position allows for smooth pedaling, and a frame setting similar to that of road bikes. Another important feature compared to exercise bikes is the "direct drive" between pedals and flywheel, not freewheel like exercise bikes: this means that with a spin bike you are always forced to pedal and to stop pedaling you will have to be careful and gradually slow down the flywheel.
- For the same training time, it allows you to burn more calories than a treadmill and exercise bike.
- It causes less stress on the joints compared to a treadmill.
- It allows you to immediately check all values of frequency, calories, speed, time, and distance.
- It allows you to maintain a consistently regular rhythm for better aerobic work.
Let's look at the main features for choosing a spin bike:
DIMENSIONS: are similar to those of a home exercise bike (approx. 125 x 55 cm)
FLYWHEEL: is the front metal disc whose weight affects pedaling fluidity: ideal between 18 and 25 KG
RESISTANCE: the more you increase it, the harder you work, simulating an uphill climb. It can be manual (felt pad knob) or electronic (directly from the console via magnetic resistance which allows micro-adjustments). Felt undoubtedly allows for higher resistance but tends to wear out and needs to be replaced periodically. Furthermore, felt creates friction which produces noise, completely absent in magnetic spin bikes.
BRAKING: the braking system is very important in fixed-gear spin bikes (see meaning below) and can be pad or magnetic.
TRANSMISSION: transmits the pedal to the flywheel, can be belt or chain. In recent years, there has been a gradual improvement towards the belt system, which is now superior because it is extremely quiet and requires no maintenance.
CATEGORIES
There are different categories of ellipticals:
FIXED GEAR: most spin bikes have this type of gear, meaning the flywheel and pedals are connected. Exercising on these spin bikes requires some practice, as unlike the bicycles we are used to, you cannot stop pedaling without first slowing down the flywheel.
FREE GEAR: works like a normal city or road bike; pedaling can be stopped without problems and the flywheel will continue to spin independently of the pedals.
CONSOLE AND COMPUTER
Each spin bike has a console that displays time, speed, distance, calories, and heart rate. More professional products (ergometers) allow you to customize programs, manage them, and show effort recovery.
ASSEMBLY AND MAINTENANCE
Assembling spin bikes is not complicated. Usually, the flywheel and main frame arrive pre-assembled. Despite this, particular attention must be paid to the correct tightening of screws and bolts. As with all products, our store offers an assembly service to ensure a safe, calibrated, and ready-to-use piece of equipment.
Maintenance, on the other hand, is very simple. They do not require any type of maintenance other than replacing the pad when it is worn out. In the case of chain transmission, it should be lubricated regularly to extend its life and prevent deterioration.
